Like most in the industry, we’ll be closely watching Saturday night’s stakes laden card at Mohawk anchored by Canada’s richest harness racing, the $1 million Pepsi North America Cup.
Seelster Farms have several performers we’ll be keeping a close eye on that night including Mad Max Hanover who punched his ticket for the big dance with a good third place finish (timed in 1:50.2) in his NA Cup elimination for Tim Tetrick. He’ll leave from the outside post 10 with Tim back in the bike for the rich final.
A son of Always B Miki, Mad Max’s dam is the Mayhem Seelster. A daughter of Mach Three, Mayhem earned just shy of $400,000 during her impressive career, after which she became a member of the elite broodmare band at Hanover Shoe Farms.
Mad Max Hanover is Mayhem Seelster’s second foal. Her first is the $204,000 winning Milieu Hanover who has won her last two of three (second in the other) at Yonkers Raceway over the past month.
Seelster Farms have an All Bets Off brother to Mayhem selling this fall named Mogul Seelster.
Archery Seelster qualified for the $251,000 Goodtimes final with a solid fouth place finish in his elimination last Friday night. The three-year-old colt is by Wheeling N Dealin and was sold at the London Selected Sale as a yearling.
Trainer Marcel Barrieau co-owns Archery Seelster with Gestion Mastel, the colt scored three wins last year as a rookie, all Ontario Sires Stakes events. He’ll leave from the rail on Saturday.
In the $401,000 Fan Hanover Final for three-year-old pacing fillies we’ll be watching last year’s O’Brien Award winner Prohibition Legal who will leave from post two. Millar Farms’ homebred daughter of Big Jim raced great in her elimination, having to squeeze up the rail to finish a close second. Her stablemate, Silver Label, captured the other elimination and has post two in the final.
So Much More could become the sport’s next millionaire with a win in the $315,000 Roses Are Red final. The six-year-old daughter of Big Jim finished second to Test Of Faith, last year’s Horse of the Year, in their elimination.
Trained by Don Beatson, who co-owns with Ken Beatson and Cole England, So Much More currently sits at $944,708 lifetime. She has drawn post one for the final.
Starting from post seven is the Sunshine Beach daughter Awesome Hill who finished fourth in the same elimination to make her way to the final. She is a homebred of Tom Hill’s with just over $200,000 banked in her career.
Race two amasses a group of the best older trotters the continent has to offer and from post three shines Wheeling N Dealin’s first outstanding son Pemberton. Trained by Paul Walker and bred and owned by Christine and Brenda Walker, this family is looking to add to the almost $400,000 earnings of their stable star.
The fifth race on the NA Cup card is the $100,000 Mohawk Gold Cup for older pacers. Seelster-bred Poseidon Seelster drew the pesky post ten for that event. If the five-year-old son of Sunshine Beach collects a cheque in the event he’ll put his 2022 earnings over the $100,000 mark as he currently sits at $96,320. Lifetime he has just over $350,000 earned for trainer Don Lindsey who co-owns with Paul Kleinpaste, William Alempijevic and Garth Bechtel.
Other Seelster-breds on the rich card including Lawless Shadow (race 3); Armor Seelster and Legion Seelster (race 6) and Yacht Seelster (race 13).
Best of luck to everyone.
